Carbon Footprints and Cleaning Green

Few businesses these days are as quickly lucrative or as easy to start as a janitorial cleaning company. Since the primary product your company sells is a little elbow grease mixed with varying parts of entrepreneurship and a bit of marketing, this is one of the more economically sound businesses to start, requiring a minimum capital investment. What's more, it's one of the few companies you can begin by going totally green.

Because these days knowing your carbon footprint is just as important as knowing your credit rating, green cleaning is not only all the rage, it's good business. Companies are hiring janitorial cleaners based on how green their services are.

FLECK

On the other hand, what if you already own a traditional janitorial and commercial cleaning service, but would like to go green. Well, here are some helpful tips to help your convert your clients as well as your staff.

Go green, one building at a time. Choose a client concerned with their carbon footprint and implement your green program with them first. Don't try to roll out all your clients at once-too chaotic. Besides, you need a flagship, and a chance to work out any bugs in your processes. There's no better feather in your cap than a great testimonial given by a happy client.

Show your commitment to growing green. Many companies are wearing the green simply as a marketing tool. Unfortunately, flash without substance never works, so it's important to make a complete commitment to change the culture of your business, inside as well as outside. Your janitorial cleaning company must be green in everything it does, down to using glassware instead of Styrofoam cups in the kitchen.

Investigate and evaluate new products and equipment. There's a myriad of green products out there. Even grocery stores now make their own. But which ones to buy? One of the fun things of going green is the opportunity to compare products. Buy them, test them, and decide for yourself which ones work the best. You can even have a little fun with this by making a video about this process, and then posting it on your company's website.

Find new ways to clean. Changing products is a step in the right direction, but it's not enough. You also have to change the way you clean. Microfiber must replace feather dusters. HEPA filter bags must replace leaky canisters in vacuum cleaners. Get your employees involved and find creative ways to clean green in process and well as product.

Go green and in the end your customers will thank you, your employees will thank you, and you'll have the satisfaction of watching your carbon footprint become a baby step.

Cleaning Tips For Residential Water Softeners

If your water softener system is not working efficiently or seems to be malfunctioning, then it could mean that the machine needs cleaning. It doesn't necessarily mean it is broken nor needs repairs. Residential water softeners have a number of components that get dirty over time.

Why Softening Systems Malfunction

SOFTENER

There are also other causes for these machines to malfunction or work less efficiently. Some of these reasons could be caused by inputting the wrong settings on the control panel. Maybe you indicated the wrong hardness level. It is also possible that the softening machine needs more sodium to soften the water.

If dirt and lack of cleaning is what's causing your machine to work less efficiently, then the problem probably lies in the brine line or in the injection system. You will have to open up your softener and check these parts to see if they indeed need cleaning.

You will need some basic cleaning tools to get rid of dirt clogging up your brine line or injector. Some things you will need to get residential water softeners cleaned are: canned pressurized air, turkey baster, wrench, warm water, a large paper clip, and soap.

Cleaning the Injector

Turn your softening system off and remove the electrical plug from the socket. Switch to bypass mode by turning on the bypass valve. This is done so that water stops flowing through the softener while you clean it. Gently remove the softener's injector cap at the back of the machine, near the top part.

Remove the injector filter behind the cap. Take the filter to the sink and wash it with warm water and soap. Afterwards, clean the injector nozzle. Use the canned air to get dust and dirt out of the nozzle. You can use the end of your paperclip to get more dirt out while you spray the nozzle with pressurized air.

Return the injector filter to its original place and secure it to its normal position over the nozzle. Screw back the cap to its place on the machine and gently return the injector cap on the filter. Tighten the cap till it is secure.

Cleaning the Brine Line

To get the brine line cleaned follow the first steps of cleaning the injector by switching off your machine and pulling the plug out of the electrical socket. Switch the machine to bypass mode as well. Unscrew the brine lines from the injector casing with a wrench.

Once the brine line is removed, inspect the inside of the line for residue that could be clogging your line. Clean the inside of the brine line by squirting water in it with a turkey baster. Once cleaned, return it to its original position. Switch the softener back on and test it.

Observe how the machine performs over the next few days and watch out for signs of hard water. If you still notice that your softening system is still not working right, then you should consult with a plumber or a company that specializes in residential water softeners.

Tips and Tricks for Starting Your Own Cleaning Business

Not everyone is enthusiastic about cleaning, but everyone likes it when their surroundings are tidy and sanitary. As a result, there will always be work opportunities for individuals that either enjoy cleaning, or are particularly meticulous and efficient at the task. If you find yourself in a camp with the latter group, then you may be a good candidate for starting your own cleaning business.

If you have decided that owning a cleaning business interests you, you first have to identify what aspect of cleaning you excel at, and are interested in pursuing for business purposes. For instance, the two broadest categories in which a commercial business can specialize include residential cleaning, such as housekeeping services, carpet cleaners and window washers, who go to individual homes and generally work on a contract basis with their homeowner clients, and commercial cleaning, which could include janitorial-type work, and may require special equipment and additional training. Once you have identified the area of cleaning that interests you, you will have a clearer vision of how to reach out to potential clients, and how to hire the appropriate and most qualified staff.

You will also need to identify whether you are interested in starting your own business from scratch, or whether you are interested in buying a commercial cleaning franchise. Both options have advantages and disadvantages. The former gives you, as the business owner, the most freedom; you could choose to work from home, you can determine how many employees to hire, you can offer specific hours, and you could conceivably remain small scale and work on a very localized level. The challenge will come in staying ahead of your competition, and establishing your business as the most reliable source for the specific services you offer.

Owning a commercial cleaning franchise requires some capital. It involves purchasing a cleaning business that already has an established name and multiple locations. You would be the owner and operator of your specific store or office location, and would be subject to the rules and standards put forth by your namesake organization. Advantages to this option include the fact that you will not have to work to be recognized, since your name will already be known in the larger cleaning community.

From the Conference Room to the Classroom, Green Cleaning Is Enhancing Productivity

The revolution is alive and well! Terms like green cleaning, organic, and biodegradable are no longer reserved for treehugger types - they're now an accepted part of our vernacular. We now live in a world where meat labels make sure you're aware that no hormones or antibiotics were used to feed your future dinner and green cleaning products stress the fact that they don't contain harmful chemicals and contaminants that can be detrimental to your health. As a society, we're more aware than ever that every product we use and consume has a significant impact on our health and subsequently our productivity.

So it comes as no surprise that commercial cleaning companies are embracing the green revolution. But it's not because they're bandwagoners. No, they're simply satisfying clients who are demanding healthier employees, hospitals that are demanding more sterile environments, and parents/teachers who are demanding a healthier classroom for students and teachers.

FLECK

The evidence clearly supports the value in not just using a commercial cleaning company, but in using a commercial cleaning company that embraces green cleaning. Prospective patients are now using infection rates as the main reason to choose a hospital - edging proximity and even hospital reputation. Offices across the world have germs covering a wide array of surfaces that are causing employees to take an average of seven sick days per year. These progressive techniques are helping reduce those stubborn germs that kids always seem to attract, resulting in students missing less school days each year as well. This prevents both students and teachers from getting behind and helps both stay more productive. So add increased productivity to the list of reasons to use commercial cleaning companies that embrace contemporary cleaning practices. Your people deserve it.

Benefits

FLECK

Several features make owning a cleaning business attractive. First, the cleaning industry is relatively recession-proof. Generally, people and businesses who contract with cleaning services for their home, business or belongings do so because they don't have time to do these cleaning tasks themselves. Commercial cleaning franchises are successful because all buildings need to be cleaned. Even in the current difficult economic situation, the cleaning industry has grown. Second, most cleaning firms operate indoors or in conditions that permit them to operate year-round. Third, a cleaning franchise has relatively low start-up costs. Your equipment needs are minimal compared to what you'd need for a franchise in the restaurant, fitness or entertainment industry.

Individual Requirements

What qualifications would help you operate a successful franchise? First, you need to be hard-working and determined to satisfy your customers. This will require you to follow through with details and check to make sure that others follow through as well. Additionally, you'll need to be absolutely honest and dependable. Your clients will be entrusting you to care for their home, business or belongings. They won't work with you if they question your integrity.

Keeping Everyone Safe With Hospital Cleaning

Everyday, hospitals are bombarded with germs, bacteria, viruses, and other infections. Hospital cleaning should be an absolute priority in every hospital to combat the staggering amounts of germs which are brought in daily. This is not only a strain on the patients, but staff as well. Anyone within the walls of the hospital is constantly exposed to any virus or infection brought through the door. The rates of infections caught within hospitals is gradually on the rise each year. Germs can be found under beds, in the cafeteria, on equipment, and in offices. It is unfortunate that a place people go to be treated is many times where they are introduced to all new illnesses.

So what exactly makes a hospital unclean? It is not just untidy beds and spilled foods, it is exposure to fluids, improper sanitation, and a neglect of proper hospital cleaning procedures. As silly as it sounds, cleanliness starts out home with uniforms that have been thoroughly cleaned between every use. Another overlooked precaution, and perhaps the most important, is washing hands. Becoming obsessive about washing hands will dramatically cut back on cross-contamination. Hands must be completely disinfected every time a patient or staff member comes into contact with any 'handled' object.

FLECK

Hospital cleaning changes a hospital from being a location of transference to a place of healing. A few simple steps can make a huge difference in contamination and the transference of viruses and bacteria. Hospitals can be a stressful environment and it can be easy to overlook simple procedures such as washing hands, quickly cleaning spilled fluids, or properly disinfecting exposed surfaces. It is not unclean people that make a hospital unclean, instead it is generally absentmindedness or oversight. Hospital cleaning should be at forefront of your mind to maintain a happy and healthy work environment for both the staff and the patients.

Water Softener Cleaning

When your water softener is not working, you will notice salt residue on the glass and also the salt will sink even when you add much of it. You should clean the injector at least two times a year to help improve the job it does for your home. Follow the steps below for the best cleaning advice on water softener cleaning.

water softener reviews

Start by switching your water softener to bypass mode. Doing this, it will make sure water will not run through while you are in the cleaning process. Then, disconnect the plug from the electrical outlet in the wall; this will also prevent any harm during the process. Next, remove the water softener injector cap. After the injector cap is removed, you should also remove the injector screen located behind the cap. You should wash this screen with warm and soapy water. You can then clean the softener injector nozzle.

WATER SOFTENER

Canned air usually works best to remove the dust and dirt particles in the machine. Also, using a paperclip will help clean the rest of the water softener. Then, put the injector screen back in place making sure the screen is secure and back in its original position. Also, you should screw the injector cap back into its position and tighten it so it is back in place. Make sure to prepare the softener for testing and plug back into the electrical outlet so it will work. After all the pieces have been put back in place, you are ready to test it. Run it and see if it is running properly. Your water softener should now be good for six months or until it is ready for more cleaning.
